Scott Drab is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy & Therapeutics and Director of University Diabetes Care Associates. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh and his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Duquesne University.
Dr. Drab’s efforts in contributing to pharmaceutical care led to the creation of one of the first pharmacist−run diabetes care centers located in a community independent pharmacy. As a Certified Diabetes Educator and director of the clinic, he is responsible for care plan development, education, and patient follow up. He has managed the care of hundreds of diabetic patients over the years, improving clinical health outcomes. In addition to the direct patient care responsibilities, Dr. Drab is responsible for providing drug information to the surrounding medical community and provides outreach education to benefit the greater good of the community. Today University Diabetes Care Associates serves as a model and prototype for future care centers.
Dr. Drab’s teaching responsibilities at the school of pharmacy involve clinical instruction as well as classroom teaching. His classes are centered around collaborative and inquiry-based learning while he strives to provide a classroom environment that simulates the practice environment.
Dr. Drab currently serves on several School and University committees including the Experiential Learning Committee, Academic Performance Committee, Pharm D Council, University Senate Community Relations Committee and the Pitt Pathway Committee. He also serves as faculty advisor and liaison between students and the National Community Pharmacists Association.
He has received the Roche Preceptor of the Year Award in 2003 and 2008 and was selected as the 2007 Recipient of the Pennsylvania Society of Health System Pharmacist’s Joe E. Smith Award. The Joe E. Smith award is awarded to a pharmacist who is a member of PSHP and who demonstrates excellence in practice and is deserving of recognition for service to his institution, the community and the profession.
