Graduate Student Organization (GSO)

Mission:

  • Facilitate meaningful connections among graduate students across different disciplines and departments.
  • Represent the interests of the graduate student community in matters related to graduate programs and student life at the University of Pittsburgh.
  • Serve as a platform for communication between graduate students, administration, faculty, and other university entities.
  • Increase graduate student involvement in school and university-wide functions, such as recruitment and supporting school initiatives.

Activities:

Welcome Picnic:
Usually out at Schenley Pavilion, the GSO hosts a welcome picnic for incoming MS and PhD students with games and activities!​

Kayaking:
A group of graduate students kayaking in North Park.

 

 
Yankee Swap/International Luncheon:
A time to get together, try new food, and enjoy some great times with friends!

Organizational Structure:

  • President: The President shall administer the affairs of the organization in line with its general policies and procedures. The president shall issue all notices, shall send and answer correspondence after the discussion with Vice-president, the Business Manager and the Media ManagerChair Elect: Assumes the position of Chair when the Chair is absent. At the end of their term, the Chair-Elect shall assume the office of the Chair for the next year.
  • Vice president: The Vice-President shall perform all duties of the President in the absence of that officer. She/he shall assist the President with the oversight of the student organization including event planning. She/he shall perform any and all other duties as directed by the President in accordance with the position's description.
  • Business Manager: The Business Manger shall overlook all financial issues including budget, expenditure and annual report. She/he shall pay all bills incurred by the PS-GSO with the approval of the President. She/he shall pay bills from officers and representatives according to PS-GSO guidelines. She/he shall keep records of all financial transactions and give a statement of finance as often as required.
  • Media Manager: The Media Manager shall record the roll and minutes of the organization meetings. She/he shall keep accurate records of all meetings and other proceedings. She/he shall maintain and updating the organization website and social media platforms to reflect recent events and future plans.
