
A bit about her important findings… Prior disparities research tended to lump all Hispanic groups together because subgroup sample sizes were too small. However, using large nationally representative data allowing us to look at Hispanic subgroups (Puerto Rico, Mexico, Cuba, etc), Anna discovered that older diabetics from Cuba were MUCH less likely to received recommended annual diabetes monitoring tests. As “one-size-fits-all” interventions are inefficient and expensive, Anna’s findings will be useful for developing more targeted policies and interventions designed to reduce disparities in diabetes care.
