PittPharmacy's APhA-ASP chapter won the University of Pittsburgh Outstanding Program of the Year Award (under $7,500) for their efforts in Kidapalooza!
The event, Kidapalooza, was a collaboration with members of the community held at the David Lawrence Convention Center in February 2018. Eight student organizations and sixty student pharmacists participated and educated the general public on OTC medication safety including sun safety, first aid, outdoor health, safe medication storage, how to identify pills versus candy, and what is a poison throughout the house.
Activities enjoyed by kids and adults were:
- Games such as hopscotch where kids would have to step on the candy and skip over the medications to teach children and families just how easy it is to get confused and take the wrong thing
- Household items such as various cleaners and medications in a bin where children had to sort them by those that are helpful and those that are harmful
- A photo booth where children could wear a "junior pharmacist" white coat and take a souvenir photo in front of the Pitt Pharmacy backdrop
- Pitt Pharmacy coloring books, medication word searches, and candy
