Horn has served as a clinical pharmacist in cardiac transplant and mechanical circulatory support since 2018 and will continue to support the Artificial Heart Program. Horn is recognized as an expert in the care of cardiac transplantation patients and has published and spoken extensively on the pharmacotherapy of these patients. Horn served as an expert reviewer on the 2022 update of the “The International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) Guidelines for the Care of Heart Transplant Recipients.”
Additionally, he has served in numerous leadership roles in the ISHLT, including chair of the Pharmacy and Pharmacology Council of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation, steering committee for the Mechanical Circulatory Support Interdisciplinary Network, and Scientific Program Planning Committee.
Horn received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 2000 and completed post-graduate training programs at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia and at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. Horn has served in a critical care clinical pharmacy specialist role both at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, where he was also the PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency Director from 2011-2018. Horn joined the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy in 2018 where he is now an associate professor in the Department of Pharmacy and Therapeutics.
