A manuscript from PittPharmacy graduate student Firuz Feturi titiled "Mycophenolic acid for topical immunosuppression in vascularized composite allotransplantation: optimizing formulation and evaluation of bioavailability and pharmacokintics ", has been accepted for publication in the prestigious journal Frontiers in Surgery.
Feturi and associates successfully developed, a topical formulation of mycophenolic acid (MPA), an immunosuppressive drug in Lipoderm with optimal in vitro/in vivo permeability characteristics and no undesirable local or systemic adverse effects. The study provides key preliminary groundwork for translational efficacy studies of topical MPA in pre-clinical large animal VCA models, and for further evaluation in patients receiving VCA.
Frontiers in Surgery is the umbrella journal representing the publication interests of all surgical specialties. The aim of this multidisciplinary journal is to create a discussion and knowledge platform of advances and research findings in surgical practice today to continuously improve clinical management of patients and foster innovation in this field.
Professor Raman Venkataramanan, PhD is Feturi's faculty advisor.
