Karen Steinmetz Pater, PharmD, BCPS, CDE has been appointed to the Nonprescription Medicines Academy (NMA) Steering Committee for a 3 year term (2013-2016). The mission of the NMA is to support pharmacy faculty by providing relevant and impactful information on nonprescription medicines and self care conditions, and is designed to promote networking, information-gathering and information-sharing among pharmacy colleagues nationally.
One of the roles of the steering committee members is to develop programming for the Annual NMA conference, which recently concluded its 16th annual conference in Cincinatti, Ohio. Pater's interest in the self care arena began when she was a student, and she coordinates the Self Care course at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. The course educates students on the practical application of self care knowledge through innovative classroom instruction including Team Based Learning and development of the Standardized Patient Program.
