Lowry Appointed Clinical Director

Maria Felton Lowry, PharmD, BCPS, BCGP was appointed as the role of Clinical Director, Pharmacy Services for UPMC Palliative and Supportive Institute. Dr. Lowry joined UPMC Palliative and Supportive Institute in January 2021 as the clinical pharmacy specialist, and through this role she provides clinical pharmaceutical expertise to eight hospitals and nine outpatient clinics and participates in numerous palliative care interdisciplinary rounds as the pharmacist representative. She has led departmental pharmacy-related initiatives such as: editing and creating content for the UPMC PSI Palliative Care Reference Guide and authoring The Tablet, an evidence-based resource circulated throughout our system. Additionally, she has piloted several pharmacist-led initiatives which have helped transform outpatient practice through opioid stewardship and transitions of care.

As the Clinical Director of Pharmacy Services, she will continue to collaborate with system partners to advocate for palliative care patients through system-level initiatives, support palliative care pharmacotherapy best practices, and promote the advancement of pharmacy practice in palliative care.

Dr. Lowry received her PharmD degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 2015 and completed post-graduate residency training at UPMC St. Margaret. Lowry was a palliative care clinical pharmacist at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital where she was actively involved in several pharmacy residency programs from 2017-2020. Lowry joined the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy in 2021 where she is now an assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacy and Therapeutics.
