PittPharmacy is pleased to announce the development of a new fellowship program in implementation science and pharmacoanalytics. This fellowship is a collaboration between PittPharmacy, UPMC, and Pfizer, Inc. that provides the opportunity for advanced pharmacoanalytics, practice implementation, and clinical outcomes expertise that is essential for leadership in contemporary pharmacy practice.
Implementation Science involves the scientific study of methods to promote the systematic uptake of quality improvement findings and other evidence-based practices into routine clinical care, and therefore is used to improve the quality and effectiveness of health services. This new program expands the cardiovascular translational research program at PittPharmacy and UPMC. The initial project involves a multidisciplinary collaboration to conduct a large-scale analysis of anticoagulation practices and clinical outcomes among patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). It is anticipated that this population health project will help to translate best practices to improve the quality of care for patients by identifying gaps in evidence-based care. A successful care model for NVAF, across transitions of care, will then be disseminated through scholarship and future research.
The first fellow in the program is Evan White, a PharmD graduate of the University of North Carolina. White will join an implementation team in the PittPharmacy/UPMC collaboration to build a Population Health and data-informed medication therapy approach for our patients.
White will work under the primary mentorship of PittPharmacy faculty members Jim Coons, PharmD, Sandra Kane-Gill, PharmD, MS and Amy Seybert, PharmD. He will also work closely with UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute leadership, including Dr. Sandeep Jain.
