The University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy (Pitt Pharmacy) has been named an inaugural ACT-AACP Community Pharmacy Center of Excellence by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). This prestigious designation recognizes Pitt Pharmacy's exceptional commitment to elevating the role of community pharmacists in patient care.
Out of 17 schools of pharmacy nationwide selected for the first cohort, Pitt Pharmacy stands out for its dedication to advancing community pharmacy across five key areas: teaching, service, scholarship, leadership, and partnerships. Faculty and staff, particularly those within the Community Leadership and Innovation in Practice Center, have spearheaded national efforts to broaden the scope of patient care services provided by community pharmacists.
This leadership extends beyond the national stage. Pitt Pharmacy, in collaboration with CPESN USA, AACP, and the Community Pharmacy Foundation, established the ACT Pharmacy Collaborative, a program focused on transforming community pharmacy practice. Additionally, the school played a key role in forming the Pennsylvania Pharmacist Care Network and spearheading numerous research and training initiatives. These efforts ensure patients have greater access to medication-related care from their local pharmacies.
