PittPharmacy Resident Kovac Receives Community Grant

pittpharmacy_jonathankovac_0006Community Pharmacy Resident Jonathan Kovacs, PharmD '16 was awarded an APhA Foundation Incentive Grant for his research proposal titled  "Eliciting Successful Patient Engagement Methods by Pharmacists and Technicians in a Regional Grocery Chain Pharmacy." Patient engagement in pharmacist-provided care within a community pharmacy is a nationwide challenge. Results of this study will provide insight into contemporary methods of patient engagement utilized by pharmacists and technicians in community pharmacies with current, high patient participation in patient care services. These specific patient engagement methods can be utilized as a framework for training and further deployment of patient care services within community pharmacies in order to more broadly meet medication-related patient needs. Kovac's research mentor is PittPharmacy faculty member Lucas Berenbrok, PharmD,  along with co-investigators Melissa A. Somma McGivney, PharmD, FCCP, FAPhAKim Coley,PharmD, FCCP, and Hannah Renner.  Assisting Kovac with his research are pharmacists Christine Jordan and Renee Richardson from the Giant Eagle supermarket company.
