Student pharmacists from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy have joined the clinical specialists at the PPC to conduct phone screens and to answer questions during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Pittsburgh Poison Center (PPC) has expanded its public health efforts to include the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to providing recommendations on potentially toxic exposures, the PPC has begun addressing medical questions from the public initially directed to local public health agencies. The PPC has also begun a partnership with local EMS agencies to screen patients who either may have or may be at high-risk for developing COVID-19. This ensures that patients are treated with the appropriate level of care and that first responders take necessary precautions to limit community spread.
