PittPharmacy faculty, staff and students shared holiday joy by donating, collecting and delivering gifts to the Matilda Theiss Center located in the city’s Hill District. Over 20 bags of toys, games and personal items were delivered to the center on December 10, 2013. Coordinator of the project was administrative assistant Dolly Hornick.
Thank you to all who donated and to graduate students who helped load the caravan of cars. Thanks to PharmD student Alli Blumer (Class of 2015) who coordinated donations from the students. UPMC Matilda Theiss is a small urban community health center that serves a primarily low income and uninsured population. The health center serves approximately 1600 patients, 30% are uninsured, 60% are Medicare or Medicaid and the reminder have private insurance. Pharmacists and pharmacy residents from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy provide full time clinical pharmacy services including: medication access through on-site dispensary and patient assistance programs, patient counseling, provider education, medication reconciliation, preventive care programs through a smoking cessation clinic, and disease state management for high risk patients.
