PittPharmacy's Philip Empey Selected as AJHP Editor

Philip E. Empey on magazineAssistant Professor Philip E. Empey, PharmD, PhD is the guest editor of the December 1, 2016 precision medicine-theme issue of the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy (AJHP). The issue focuses on pharmacogenomics as the ideal "use case" of precision medicine. It features articles and perspectives from leading experts who have created successful implementations in a variety of clinical settings, developed consensus clinical guidelines, and overcome barriers in informatics and education to provide pharmacogenomics-based care. Contemporary regulatory and payer viewpoints on genetic testing are also presented. The issue emphasizes the significant role that pharmacists increasingly play in delivering individualized care using genomics -- leadership that is prominent here in Pittsburgh. Empey and his team at PittPharmacy are spearheading efforts to implement pharmacogenomics clinical, research, and education programs throughout the university and medical community. Empey is a member of the pharmacy and therapeutics department at PittPharmacy and is associate director of the Pitt/UPMC Institute of Precision Medicine.
