SLAS 2017 Tony B. Academic Travel Award Winners

 

PittPharmacy Graduate Students Ashley Fancher and Stanton Kochanek are recipients of the Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening (SLAS) Tony B. Academic Travel Award for 2017. Fancher is a repeat winner from 2016. They will present posters at SLAS 2017 international conference and exhibition, in Washington DC, February 2017. Winners were determined by a panel of judges who conducted comprehensive evaluations of student abstract proposals and made selections based on scientific merit. Award applications were reviewed and assessed on a number of factors, including but not limited to: • Quality of the abstract • Relevance of the research to the SLAS2017 conference • Statement of value of the conference • Qualifications of the applicant 64 undergraduate students, graduate students, post-doctoral researchers and junior faculty members from 14 countries received SLAS Tony B. Academic Travel Awards for SLAS2017. The Tony B. Academic Travel Award honors Tony Beugelsdijk, Los Alamos National Laboratory, an Association for Laboratory Automation (ALA) co-founder who passed away in August, 2009. Tony played a very inspirational and instrumental role in laboratory robotics and made significant contributions to ALA, the former Lab Automation conference and exhibition, and the scientific community as a whole. SLAS is honored to remember him through a program that recognizes up-and-coming researchers who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in laboratory science and technology.
