McGrath is a 2007 University of Pittsburgh graduate and completed a PGY-1 community practice residency. After residency, McGrath accepted a dual dispensing and clinical position with Rite Aid with the goal of creating a patient care practice where she could teach pharmacy students and residents how to care for patients. In 2009, McGrath became a certified APhA immunization and CPR trainer. She has singlehandedly taught classes where over 500 pharmacists were certified.
McGrath also serves as a primary preceptor for the University of Pittsburgh Community Pharmacy Residency program. She also serves as a preceptor for Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE). In 2010, McGrath also accepted a Visiting Faculty position at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and became an assistant professor in 2011. McGrath coordinates the SilverScripts experience, which allows first-year pharmacy students to enter local senior centers to care for real patients for the first time in their professional careers.
